Overview
The Sierra Leonean leone (old) was the currency of Sierra Leone from 1964 to 2022, when it was replaced by the new leone (SLE) at a rate of 1000:1. The old leone experienced severe devaluation due to civil war, Ebola crisis, and economic challenges. Sierra Leone has one of the world's poorest economies despite rich mineral resources.
